The Joint Security Agencies had a successful week, where a total of 10 guns were recovered, seven from Karamoja, two from Kyebando and one from Gulu City. On the 22.2.2023 at around midnight, two criminal gang members behind the theft of motorcycle in Aswa Region, hired Okello Samuel, a 32-year-old boda boda rider of Pece African quarters cell in Gulu City, to transport them to Aywee village. They however, turned against him at Vanguard cell, shot him dead and robbed his motorcycle. Our Flying Squad teams responded to the incident and conducted a search in the house of a suspect called Stephen, where an AK 47 rifle was recovered. Other exhibits of a tracking device, breaking implements, master keys, a head mask were also recovered and exhibited.
On the 23.02.2023 at around 4am, three armed warriors where put out on action, after they fell in a Joint UPDF – ASTU ambush at Kocholo village in Kobulir parish, Abim district. One SMG Rifle was recovered, and 3 warriors put out on action. Again, on the 23.02.2022 at around 1pm, suspected Turkana/Matheniko warriors raided cows at Nakele Dam, Watukan Parish in Kotido district. As a result, they were pursued by UPDF solders from the 405 Brigade, which led to the killing of 4 warriors, recovery of 11 Head of cattle and 2 donkeys, 4 guns were recovered with 3 rounds.
On the 24.02.2023 at around 12.40pm, an intelligence led operation was carried out by the UPDF from the 405 Brigade, at Nakapelemoron Sub county in Kotido district. A fire exchange took place at Kaichodo village, Kamor sub county in Kotido district. As a result, 2 SMG rifles were recovered. One suspect identified as Lokobo Michael arrested.
On the 25.02.2023, at around 3am, the territorial police came across a criminal gang of about 8 suspects in a football ground in Kyebando. Upon sighting police, the suspects fled but two were arrested, who included; Nsubuga Ismail, aged 42 and Mubiru Erias, a 60-year-old boda boda rider of Kirokole but stays in Matugga. A search was conducted immediately and two SMG riffles with 29 rounds of ammunition recovered. In addition, a motorcycle registration number UFR 587Q, which was being used in their mobility was also recovered.
As we all know the random acts of violence, continue to happen. These crimes plague our communities and deprive the community of their peace and security. And it is against this background that we do applaud the security personnel from the 405 Brigade, ASTU, the territorial Commanders in KMP and appreciate their efforts in removing dangerous firearms from the hands of notorious criminal who are a danger to society.
