A total of 42 police officers have today begun a training on Children Diversion Guidelines in Mbale.
AIGP Bamunoba Ubaldo, the Chief Political Commissar, officially opened the training at Courts View Hotel, in Mbale City.
The purpose of the training is to equip police officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to handle juvenile cases in a manner that promotes the best interests of the child, aligns with the juvenile justice system, and prioritizes rehabilitation over punitive measures.
The training will mainly focus on diversion of children’s cases while avoiding formal judicial proceedings whenever appropriate.
AIGP Bamunoba extended deepest gratitude to UNICEF for its invaluable support as the funder of the training, noting that it is a significant step towards building a justice system that prioritizes the rights and welfare of children.
