Police Women FC unveils new CEO, star-studdied squad

Prior to the 2024/25 Kampala Regional League kickoff, Police Women Football Club on Friday geared up for the forthcoming season with a groundbreaking unveiling of a star-studdied squad.

The roster boosting of young talent along with the crop of experienced players was unveiled by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Dr. Hadijah Namutebi at CID headquarters, Kibuli.

AIGP Namutebi, the Director Welfare, Production and Sports was flanked by Uganda Police Force Sports Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kalule Abu, SSP Nampoza Ritah, managers of various sports disciplines, players and the technical team.

The Director urged the Girl Child not to be over-driven by fame and remain focused so as to reach greater heights, emphasizing how sports serve as a community policing strategy and a step in the right direction to break the barriers.

“Sports bring happiness and links the Police to the community. It is a community policing strategy and helps us on image building. But for this particular occasion, where we are unveiling a team of Police for women, we are breaking barriers and making history that women can make it.” Said AIGP Namutebi.

Force Sports Officer, ACP Kalule Abu preached equity and inclusivity of the Girl Child in the Sports sector and how sports has become a dependable source of livelihood.

“Sports is all about equity, inclusivity and has become a source of livelihood and income. So, we are going to work on the challenges and do within our best to mitigate them bearing in mind the uniqueness of a woman.

The Sports officer continued that, “Women Football symbolizes gender equality, hence there are healthy benefits of women taking part in sports and this helps in creating role models for this country.”

At the same event, Police Constable (PC) Nassazi Farida was unveiled as the team’s Chief Executive Officer. ACP Kalule applauded Nassazi for her exemplary leadership and commitment towards the team which is making bigger strides.

At the eventful function, Namukasa Zaina was unveiled as the team head coach. She was officially handed the instruments of power by AIGP Namutebi.

Namukasa will lead a technical team boosting of Rashid Kyambadde (Assistant coach), Kalama Ben Lwanga (Goalkeepers Coach), Inspector of Police (IP) Deo Sserwadda (Technical Director), and Lawrence Ssenyomo (Team Admin).

The Director, AIGP Namutebi thanked the team management that endeavored to fulfill the FUFA requirement of having the Police Women Football Club and urged them to keep it as the focus turns to reaching it at greater heights.

ACP Kalule showered praise to managers of various disciplines ranging from Athletics, Netball, Volleyball, Darts, Taekwondo, Boxing, Football and others for their passionate servicing and urged them to keep the fire burning.

Club chairperson Sandra Owagage Mbazira pleaded with the chief guest Dr. Namutebi to aide in improving the team’s welfare and provide sports equipment ahead of the new season.

AIGP Namutebi concluded that IGP is very passionate about sports,

“We just need to organize ourselves and present a good case to the top management but particularly the IGP who is rallying the entire team of Police management to support our sports department since the community policing strategy is a welfare strategy.”
