On November 8, 2024, at around 0600hrs, police officers from Masaka Police encountered an abandoned silver Toyota Ipsum (registration number UAN 674A) while patrolling Villa Maria Road in Kitante-Kilowoza.
The vehicle had three occupants who fled the scene when approached by the officers. Upon inspection, the officers discovered a dead black cow in the back seat, which is suspected to be stolen.
This incident underscores a troubling trend of perpetrators often hiding stolen animals in vehicle compartments to avoid detection. The vehicles used for these crimes are commonly reported as stolen to police as a means of protection against being seized during police operations.
With the festive season approaching, we are urging the public to stay alert and vigilant to report suspicious animal transportation.
We have also observed a pattern of animals being transported at night, frequently without proper authorization.
