Uganda Police have conducted operations targeting the cultivation, sale, and consumption of cannabis. On November 21, 2024, police discovered a cannabis garden allegedly owned by Oguti Robert, aged 52 in Nangirima Upper village, Lwaboba parish, Bumasikye sub-county, Mbale District. The police subsequently destroyed the plants and arrested Oguti.
The following day, November 22, 2024, police raided a bar in Gogonya in Wakiso district around 11:00 AM. Although the owner fled, officers apprehended Nakawunde Lydia and Kawoya, who were caught smoking marijuana. This bar is suspected of primarily distributing marijuana under the guise of being a legitimate establishment and was found with significant stocks of the drug.
In Iganga District, police executed an operation in Busei A and Nampirika, resulting in the arrest of twelve suspects.
On November 23, 2024, a successful intelligence-led operation occurred in Bengazi Ghetto within Ttega Cell, Nabbingo Ward, Kyengera Town Council,Wakiso District. This operation focused on specific areas known for drug stores and distribution points. Police detained Kyalimpa Evelyn (42), who was found with a sack containing multiple rolls of marijuana and confessed to her involvement in the crime.
Additionally, on November 21, 2024, at around midnight, Kira Road police targeted suspected phone snatchers in Ntinda along Stretcher Road, leading to the arrest of eighteen (18) individuals and the impounding of eight motorcycles.
