On December 5, 2024, the police received a report regarding the attempted murder of Jacob Akansasira, a 40-year-old male adult employed by Kyambogo University and residing in Kiwatule, Nakawa Division, Kampala City.
On December 02, 2024, the deceased and his family spent the night in Kyebando.
On December 1, 2024, at around 08:00hrs, he reportedly left to purchase groceries but did not return to the guest house until around 06:00hrs on December 2, 2024.
His wife received a call from a boda-boda rider informing her that her husband had been beaten near the Catholic Shrine in Namugongo and was in critical condition.
The victim was initially taken to Angelina Medical Centre in Namugongo and later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on December 11, 2024.
The police investigated the incident and visited the crime scene in Kigambo, a ghetto located in Buloli zone, Namugongo Division. Preliminary findings indicated that he was lynched by a mob that suspected him of theft. On December 13, 2024, police arrested four individuals believed to have been involved in the mob violence and still searching for more suspects.
