Police 2-0 Mbarara City

Umaru Kasumba and Gadaffi Kacancu scored a goal apiece in either half as Police bounced back to winning ways after a triumphant 2-0 home win against Mbarara City at Kavumba recreation playground.

Kasumba scored Police’s opener in just 18 minutes after pouncing on Daniel Jakony’s headed ball with an acrobatic backheel flick beating goalkeeper Abdu Kimera on the near post.

This was Kasumba’s first league goal since arriving in the mid-season transfer window but second overall across all competitions. He later had a shot deflected out for a futile corner kick which was the final moment of the first half.

In the second half, Kacancu forced goalkeeper Kimera into a fine save, skipper Kayongo Samuel was booked for a foul while Mathias Muwanga made a priceless save to deny the visitors from finishing off a well drilled through ball.

Denis Kalanzi later missed a seater from close range by tapping wide unmarked in the area. Kizito Ryan, Eragu Gabriel, Ogweti Gerald and Male Reagan were later introduced.

At 76 minutes, substitute Eragu was booked before Kacancu doubled the advantage with a reflex finishing thanks to Reagan Male who retrieved Allan Bukenya’s corner kick into play for the midfielder to pounce.

And the introduction of Emmanuel Mugume for Kacancu was the final moment as head coach Matia Lule registered a winning start after replacing Mugerwa Simon Peter as Police gaffer.

Police now moved to 26 points from 23 games and will play BUL FC at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on matchday 24.
