As Uganda Police Force, we emphasize that we do not kidnap; we lawfully arrest individuals following proper procedures.
Arrests involve physically touching or confining the suspect, or the suspect submitting to custody by word or action. If a person resists or attempts to evade arrest, officers may use necessary and proportionate force to subdue and effect the arrest.
Recently, ten suspects and members of NUP linked to unlawful drilling were arrested.
Nine appeared in court within 48 hours, with one pending. Unlawful drilling is a serious offense punishable by imprisonment up to seven years, while attending or being trained at unauthorized drills carries penalties of up to five years.
Issuance of summons in such cases remains at police discretion.
