The Inspector General of Police yesterday 12/05/2015, officially opened a one month Patriotism Development course at the Police Training School, Kabalye Masindi, for a total of 1,010, S.6 leavers of the year 2014. The patriots were selected from different patriotic clubs from all the districts of Uganda.
The IGP in his opening remarks, said the purpose of the course was to fill the deficit in the minds of some youth and many other Ugandans, who perceive matters pertaining to the development of our country differently. Their talk, because of previous acts of instability is “nfunirawa” (where do I reap from), other than “nkolerewa” (where can I work from). Such feelings can only destroy tomorrows Uganda and not build Uganda, and that it was for such reason that H.E The President of Uganda created the National Secretariat of Patriotism to conduct such trainings.
It is targeting the youth as a priority because they constitute 70% of the Ugandan population, to enable them adopt patriotism and its development to their schools and the country at large.
He further told the patriots that the timing of the course was proper due to the degree of stability sustained over the last 10 years, reason why they found it necessary to prepare the youth into making useful contributions to their country.
He in addition, told the students that he was proud that their generation was handing over a very stable Uganda to the new generation. He also urged them not to allow their country lose what it had achieved over the years through sacrifice, and that he hoped they would not be confused by politicians who lacked a sense of ideology.
In his welcome remarks, the Commissioner National Secretariat of Patriotism in the Office of the President, Lt. Col. Matsiko welcomed and thanked the IGP, for his generous offer of facilities to train the students this year. He added that the trainings were commenced in 2012, in Kapchorwa, followed by two other trainings, one in 2013, at the Uganda Technical College, Elgon and in 2014 at the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi. This therefore, was the fourth training conducted and was on record with the largest intake of 1010 patriots.
The IGP concluded by informing the patriots that patriotism was characterised by acts of sacrifice, self-drive, unity as minimum ideology and pan-Africanism as the maximum ideology. Therefore, it was now time for all Ugandans to enjoy their country because of the prevailing peace and stability.
