The Police in Bugweri are investigating a fatal road traffic crash that claimed one life and left 15 people injured.
The crash involved an Isuzu bus, registration number UA 551ED, and a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer, registration number UBB 269V.
The bus, owned by Amuria High School, was transporting students from St. Paul Secondary School, Katakwi, who were travelling to Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe for a geography study tour.
The deceased has been identified as Kasakya Abdallah (68), the driver of the bus.
The injured include 13 students, one teacher, and the bus conductor.
The crash occurred at Nawangisa Village along the Mbale–Iganga Highway in Bugweri District.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on 14th July 2026, at approximately 4:45 a.m., the bus was travelling from Mbale with 73 students on board when, upon reaching Nawangisa Village, it rammed into the rear of a stationary trailer.as
The bus driver died instantly, while the 15 victims sustained injuries of varying degrees.
A team of traffic officers led by the Regional Traffic Officer visited and documented the scene. The deceased’s body was conveyed to Iganga Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination, while the injured victims were rushed to Iganga General Hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles have been towed to Busembatya Police Station pending inspection as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
The Uganda Police Force extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
