Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, has urged security forces to strengthen coordination, teamwork and cooperation through sports.
Speaking at the opening of the 18th Inter-Forces Games at St. Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu, he said the games go beyond competition by promoting unity, discipline, resilience, teamwork and professionalism among the security forces.
Hosted by the UPDF, the 18th edition brings together the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police Force (UPF), Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) under the theme: “Building Synergies Through Sports.”
The UPDF was represented by the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Charles Okiding, alongside other senior officers.
The UPF was represented by AIGP Obwona Joseph, Director Interpol and International Relations, who represented the Inspector General of Police.
Other UPF officers in attendance included AIGP Apora James, Director of Logistics and Engineering, and SCP Halango Timothy, Deputy Director of Welfare, Production and Sports, alongside other senior officers.
The forces are competing in football, netball, handball, athletics and other sporting disciplines.
