UPL: Police, UPDF Share Spoils
• Police FC 0-0 UPDF FC
Police FC and UPDF FC shared the spoils after playing out a goalless draw in a closely contested Uganda Premier League Battle of Forces at Kira Road Police Arena in Kamwokya on Thursday.
The game handed a debut to Police’s new signing Samuel Ssekamatte, who led the attack, while Bedia Ikamba started on the bench. Another new recruit, defender Najib Fesali, was also among the substitutes.
It was a game of few clear-cut chances, with Police enjoying the better opportunities but failing to make them count in the final third.
Ivan Mayanja came close early on when he pounced on a loose clearance before unleashing a fierce low drive that was tipped behind for a corner.
Ssekamatte was later picked out by captain Saidi Kyeyune’s through ball, but his powerful effort was saved by the UPDF goalkeeper.
The visitors nearly broke the deadlock when Police goalkeeper Shukuru Hadji miscued an inswinging delivery, leaving the goal exposed, but Daniel Jakony came to the Cops’ rescue with a crucial goalline clearance.
Substitute Ikamba then missed a good opportunity after being played through, firing wide, before Lawrence Tezikya failed to convert Ikamba’s well-weighted ball, shooting over from close range.
Charles Bbaale had Police’s best chance to snatch all three points late on. The forward received a pass from Kyeyune, used a dummy to create space, but shot straight at the goalkeeper with what proved to be the final chance of the match.
The result leaves Police with four points from three matches, having registered one win, one defeat and one draw.
The Cops will return to action on matchday four away to Lugazi FC in Najjembe.
