POLICE RECOVER KIDNAPPED CHILD AND STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE IN WAKISO

Police at Nansana have arrested and detained two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping for ransom of a 10-year-old child and the theft of motor vehicle registration number UA 229AR, a silver Subaru Impreza. Both the child and the vehicle have been recovered.

The incident occurred on 4 October 2026 at about 1400hrs in Senge, Wakiso Sub-County, Wakiso District.

The suspects have been identified as:

1. Matovu Benard, 20, a resident of Nsumbi, Kyebando, Wakiso District.

2. Ssemata Christopher, 30, a boda boda rider and resident of Nsumbi, Kyebando, Wakiso District.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on 4 October 2026 at about 0900hrs, Matovu was called to a residence in Nansana East 2A to wash motor vehicle UA 229AR. After washing the vehicle, he allegedly drove away with it, switched off his mobile phones and proceeded to Senge, where he allegedly abducted the 10-year-old child from the family’s workshop.

He allegedly transported the child to Nsumbi Village, Kyebando, where he demanded a ransom of UGX 20 million for the child’s release and provided a bank account through which the money was to be paid.

Following investigations and a coordinated follow-up operation, police successfully recovered the child and the stolen motor vehicle.

The two suspects were rescued from a mob and are currently in police custody, assisting police with investigations into the alleged kidnapping, ransom demand and theft of the motor vehicle.

 

Police investigations are ongoing.
