The Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kayihura has paraded over 30 suspects in connection to the wave of attacks on communities of greater Masaka and some areas of Kampala and Wakiso. This was during a press conference at Katwe police station today Monday 24 April 2017 where the some of the suspected people confessed of being part of the insecurity activities in the communities.
These have been leaving threatening leaflets, breaking in houses, robbing property and harming victims by beatings and cuttings.
They have confessed of being commanded by one ‘Ssenga’ of Makerere and ‘BK’ who took them in large numbers to parts of Lwengo, Masaka to carry out the breakings and also steal.
Tools like pangas, hammers and pick axes were provided to carry out their missions. The suspects also said that, the many youths were collected from parts of Kawempe Kalerwe Namugoona among others areas specifically to break into houses and once you were in the gang there was no way out.
The IGP said criminals have used crime to be a business venture, and after the tension caused by these goons the police has taken action, and over 100 arrested and 50 appeared before court. Since then areas of Masaka are secure.
He adds that the parading of suspects is because of the fear which has been inflicted in the public. He assures Ugandans that police is doing the best to protect them and fight crime. He has asked the public to be more vigilant.
