The State Minister for Internal Affairs Hon Obiga Kania has called for more training of senior police officers in order to achieve efficiency, improve service delivery and professionalization of the force.
The Honorable Minister made the remarks yesterday during the pass out ceremony for police officers who completed Intermediate Command and Staff Course Intake 3 at Police College in Bwebajja, Wakiso district.
“The contents of courses done here are extremely relevant; we need to be effective commanders to make sure that your subordinates and others perform. Said the minister
He added that “command courses of this nature are extremely important; therefore those of you graduating today must consider your selves as lucky pioneers and prepare for your professional work “.
“Such trainings are relevant because even if you have good equipment it must be used by people who are effective and efficient otherwise that equipment can be misused if you have many people and they are doing mediocre work and we will not achieve our objective of keeping law and order”. He added.
Hon Kania explained that such trainings in future should be cardinal factor of accessing people’s effectiveness including issues of promotion and deployment in strategic areas.
“So I want to encourage you and your colleagues who will be coming back to use this course to perform better and make forces under you do their best and apply that knowledge you have acquired from here to serve the public, by doing that our public relations will improve by itself”. He noted.
The Inspector General of police Gen Kale Kayihura in his address congratulated the officers upon this mile stone in their professional career.
“It’s not a small achievement in terms of building your individual professional career, as well as your ability to contribute to the security of the country “. Said the IGP
He explained that Human resource development is a critical capability that the police management has embarked on among the 13 strategic tasks to be achieved.
The course attracted 58, participants from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of police to Assistant Commissioners of Police 5 from Uganda Prisons Service that ran for four months.
The officers received certificates in the following fields of Intermediate Command and staff course, Advanced Certificate in Peace building, Human Security and Conflict Transformation and Certificate in investigation of Sexual Gender based violence in conflict.
