ARUA
Locals have recovered a gun believed to have been used by criminals to terrorize the district and its neighborhood.
The recovered gun is an SMG No. UG UPDF-UE 04061998.
It was recovered with 13 rounds of ammunitions.
This was on Saturday morning after Ali Tiondi, a resident of the area
had moved into Barifa Forest to look for his stolen iron sheets but bumped into an armed robber resting.
Tiondi quickly convened his neighbors who then approached the robber with pangas.
However the gun man got up from his sleep, grabbed his gun so as to shoot his attackers but he was over powered.
He was cut several times on the head, his back, arms and the legs during the scuffle.
The robber however disappeared in thin air.
It is suspected that his accomplices relocated him to an unknown location.
Attempts to use sniffer dogs to hunt his whereabouts proved futile.
We have however established that the gun was the very gun robbed from a UPDF officer Pt. Otimong James attached to 503 brigade who was killed on 13/05/2018 while on official duty at Arua Hill Boma Ground by unknown assailants vide CRB1497/18 of CPS, Arua.
The same gun is also connected to a number of murders by shooting that rocked Arua town and its suburbs.
In fact, the gun was robbed with 120 rounds of ammunitions but upon its recovery on Saturday, only 13 rounds of ammunitions were recovered.
Some exhibits of personal effects including a mobile phone have also been recovered from the scene.
Two people have been arrested so far to assist in investigations.
The Case file has meanwhile been amended to include murder and illegal possession of fire arms.
