Police Cadet (Intake of 2010) last evening reunited and celebrated 12 years of successful service in a colorful function held at Aangan Restaurant along the Lugogo bypass in Kampala.
Held under the theme: “Building on 12 years of hard work and a strong Police system, a perspective of 2010”, the night was made even more exciting as now senior officers reminisced life at the Police Training School – Kabalye while throwing bunters at each other at will.
The officers reached Kabalye on November 5, 2010. However, their training took longer than normal. During their two years in Kabalye, they were between Masindi and Kampala given the riots in the former at the time.
SP Moses Nanoka, now a deputy Regional Police Commander – Busoga North in his capacity as the Chairperson Organizing Committee assured the Police leadership of total support. According to SP Nanoka, the meeting is scheduled to happen annually.
The Deputy Director, Human Resources – SCP Godfrey Musana – appealed to officers to use their youthfulness to improve service delivery in the Force. SCP Musana’s argument is that the officers have just started.
“This is the age you must be working very hard,” CP Musana said. “You have just worked 1/3 of your service. It is at this age that you should be firing your cylinders to full capacity.”
According to SCP Musana, the 2010 Intake joined the Force at the time the world was advancing technology in terms of policing.
“We are very sure that with all this advancement in technology, you are the right crop to take us forward,” SCP Musana noted.
SCP Musana, however, appealed to the officers to be “patient, respectful and embrace research.”
The Ag. Director, CPC – SCP Hadijah Namutebi – who was the Ag. Commandant, Police Training School – Kabalye – described the Intake as unique. According to SCP Namutebi, this is because while they were on training, they were also being called in to quell riots in Kampala, and that the same Intake had a blend of South Sudan and Somali Intakes. The Intake also had all professionals in that the Force was not sure at the time where they would do after pass-out. This is on top of taking two year on the course.
“That course was challenging that you could almost not blame them because most of their time, they were in Kampala for policing. I congratulate you for having been resilient,” SCP Namutebi said adding, “You have lived to prove that time is coming and there will be no one else except this Intake. Do what you are supposed to do. Be professional. Be nationalistic, professional and citizens of good character. Serve the people. If the people were there, we wouldn’t have this job. Master your Constitutional mandate and contribute to the development of the Country. Don’t attract negativity. Recognize protocol of the Force. I congratulate you upon the 12 years. Serving in the Force is beautiful and a calling. Be patient and continue doing good. Look after your families (for those who have them) because they are your biggest support system for you to serve in the Force. Value colleagues. Be grateful to the government that offered us the opportunity to serve the Community. Don’t take this job for granted.”
Currently, the Intake boasts of 1 RPC, 2 RPCs, 91 DPCs, 34 OC Stations, 58 OC CIDs and 5 R/CIDs, among others, out of about 180 officers.
