Yesterday, 09/03/2026, AIGP Bamunoba Ubaldo, the Chief Political Commissar, chaired a comprehensive security meeting at Ibanda District Hall, bringing together key leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on matters affecting the safety and stability of communities in the district.

The meeting focused on addressing critical security concerns within the district, notably cattle theft, theft of agricultural produce, land disputes, domestic violence, and other petty crimes that continue to affect livelihoods in the area.

Following extensive discussions, several key resolutions were reached. Among them was the implementation of snap road checks in collaboration with Veterinary Officers across the sub-counties to regulate and monitor the movement of cattle as a measure to curb livestock theft.

During the meeting, emphasis was also placed on the need for political reconciliation among local leaders in order to foster unity and strengthen collective responsibility in addressing community challenges.

Furthermore, participants agreed to strengthen multi-stakeholder engagement in security and community sensitization efforts. This will involve closer collaboration with Community Development Officers, Community-Based Organizations, and Religious Leaders, whose roles are vital in promoting awareness, conflict resolution, and social cohesion within communities.

The meeting also resolved that sub-counties should formulate and enforce bye-laws aimed at preventing crime and strengthening local accountability mechanisms within their respective communities. In addition, the reactivation of Sub-county Security Committees, chaired by LC III Chairpersons, was agreed upon to enhance grassroots security coordination.

AIGP Bamunoba Ubaldo also took the opportunity to commend the people of Ibanda District for conducting a peaceful electoral process, which reflects the community’s commitment to peace and stability.

These engagements form part of the Inspector General of Police’s ongoing security and community sensitization initiative, currently being implemented across the Ankole Region and the wider cattle corridor, aimed at enhancing public safety, strengthening partnerships with communities, and promoting proactive crime prevention.

The meeting was attended by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), District Internal Security Officer (DISO), LC V Chairperson, Gombolola Internal Security Officers (GISOs), Regional Internal Security Officer for Ankole Region, Resident State Attorney (RSA), LC III Chairpersons, the District Police Commander (DPC), Town Council and Sub-county Officers in Charge of Stations, Heads of Departments at CPS Ibanda, Prisons Officers, Sub-county Chairpersons, elders, and other key stakeholders.

Together, they reaffirmed their collective commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens through unity, vigilance, and coordinated action.

This initiative will continue with more security meetings along the cattle corridor in Kazo and Kiruhura districts, as efforts intensify to strengthen security and community collaboration across the region.
