Commissioner of Police (CP) Julius Twinomujuni has called upon members of the District Task Forces to intensify their efforts in the fight against human trafficking in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
CP Twinomujuni, the Coordinator for the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons (COPTIP) in Uganda made the call while addressing a team of the task force individuals in Eastern Uganda on November, 3rd, 2023, with a shared goal of sensitizing the public on the menace of human trafficking.
This team comprises of 40 officers from diverse fields who convened to deliberate on the challenges they encounter in conducting their duties and to formulate effective strategies to counter them.
The team members are drawn from various sectors, including different religious groups, local governments, security agencies (Police and ISO), labor officers, Community Development Officers, probation officers, Office of the Director of public Prosecutions, Educational Officers among others within the Bukedi region.
According to statistics, domestic human trafficking is on the rise, prompting the establishment of these specialized task forces. So far, the initiative has been piloted in specific regions, namely; Arua, Kyotera, Tororo, and Kasese.
By binding together and taking proactive measures, the group aims to combat the alarming surge in human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals in Eastern Uganda.
The activity is supported by the Better Migration Management Programme, funded by the EU and Germany.
