FESTIVE SEASON SECURITY MESSAGE

As we usher in the Christmas festive season, the Uganda Police Force warmly extends greetings to all Ugandans and visitors. With only 10 days to Christmas and 17 days to the New Year 2026, we wish everyone peace, joy, and shared celebration.

All security agencies are on heightened alert to ensure that people across the country celebrate in a peaceful and orderly manner. This season is unique because it coincides with the 2026 General Elections period.

CELEBRATIONS, EXCITEMENT AND FAMILY GATHERINGS

The festive period is characterized by joy, reunions, and travel. However, such excitement can sometimes invite crime such as theft, house break-ins, and domestic violence.

Avoid leaving homes unattended. Inform a trusted neighbour when traveling.

Strengthen neighbourhood watch groups and maintain close contact with nearby police establishments.

Report suspicious persons or movements immediately.

Address disputes peacefully.

ENTERTAINMENT SHOWS AND EVENTS

Music shows and social gatherings are common during this period.

For safety and compliance;

All events must be cleared in writing by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Organizers are required to jointly plan security measures with the District Security Committees and other regulatory authorities.

Venues must meet safety standards with high emphasis on clear exits, emergency firefighting equipment, first aid facilities, and adequate lighting.

Overcrowding is prohibited. Venues must not host numbers exceeding their capacity.

Advertising artistes who will not attend events is a criminal offence. Such fraud shall be investigated and prosecuted.

Area Police Commanders shall issue additional operational guidelines tailored to local venues.

PRAYER SESSIONS

The season features extended worship and overnight prayers.

Organizers should coordinate with District Security Committees for security and safety planning.

INCREASED TRAVEL AND TRAFFIC SAFETY

This season sees heavy movement on roads and water bodies. Common risks include drunk driving, overloading, and reckless driving, failure to use safety gear such as helmets and seatbelts etc.

Uganda Police shall intensify enforcement operations specially on public service vehicles to ensure passenger safety.

On water transport: ensure vessels are not overloaded, carry life jackets, and operate only seaworthy boats.

FIRE SAFETY

End of year activities often involve fire hazards

We strongly advise people to adhere to basic fire safety protocols:

Switch off electrical appliances before travel.

Keep emergency firefighting tools such as extinguishers handy.

Do not lock children in houses.

SHOPPING AND CASH MANAGEMENT

The holiday period attracts increased spending and transactions. Beware of pickpockets, scammers, and online fraudsters.

Use cashless options where possible and beware of fake mobile money agents.

Avoid displaying large amounts of money in public.

Verify authenticity of online sellers before making payments.

Co-operate with security personnel in malls and markets.

GENERAL CRIME

Livestock theft, burglaries, and property crime tend to rise during festive seasons.

Wanainchi are encouraged to report suspicious traders or animal movements.

COUNTER-TERRORISM AND PUBLIC VIGILANCE

Uganda remains vigilant against terrorism. Security agencies are on high alert to prevent attacks and detect suspicious activity early. The public is urged to:

Report unattended luggage or suspicious persons immediately.

Stay alert in crowded areas such as bus parks, malls, churches, and entertainment venues.

Cooperate with security officers during screening and searches.
