The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura and the Chief Executive of MTN, Mr. Mazen Mrove have today commissioned the community policing on the highways beginning with the Northern By pass Police booths.

This was after MTN Chief Executive Mr. Mazen Mrove handed over 10 Police booths that MTN constructed along the Northern By-pass. The function took place at Kiwutule, Najjera.

The booths will help in policing the Northern By-Pass, they are placed 2.1. Kilometers, this will assist in effective policing of the area.

While commissioning, Gen. Kayihura said that according to the law both the giver and receiver of the bribe are all guilty  therefore, people who normally write reports that Police are the most corrupt, they should look into the law before saying that.

“The giver of the bribe are the principal criminals, you tempt the Police officers with money, both of you are criminals, the principal culprits are the one who gives, that means Ugandans are the most corrupt not the Police, check the law and see what it says,” Gen. Kayihura said.

The IGP called for the re-activation of the registration of residents by Local Councils.

“LCs should begin registering people who report to your areas, you should register them, anybody who transfers from one village to another must first report to the LC before you settle down,” Kayihura said.

He said that raising the individual security consciousness has helped a lot in crime prevention.

“We normally issue terror alerts when we receive information about terror threat, you have to be safe before anything else, the media have been criticizing me that i over issue terror alerts but I have a duty to warn you, and that is raises individual security consciousness,” Gen. Kayihura said.

The police chief said that community policing has done a lot in solving security challenges in the country.

“With community Policing more Police Officers are in the field solving problems than sitting behind desks, I am happy that the Police is taking that direction of preventing crimes before it happens,.” IGP said.

Gen, Kayihura, appreciated MTN Uganda for donating the booths to Police and called upon other corporate bodies to join hands in helping the Police force.

He requested any corporate body to put up a booth for Police Officers who operate at Punjani roundabout Jinja road.

The Chief Executive of MTN, Mr. Mazen Mrove, appreciated Uganda Police for the good job it has done in maintaining peace and security in the country.

“As MTN we want to thank you for your efforts you have done a commendable job,” Mr. Mazen Mrove said.
