HOLY WEEK AND EASTER CELEBRATION WAS PEACEFUL

The Leadership of the Joint Security Agencies, would like to applaud all security personnel, who promoted safety and boosted security during the Holy week and Easter celebrations. Reports from all our jurisdictions, indicate that the festivities were generally peaceful without any incidents of security concern. At least millions of Christians gathered in churches and other places of worship across the country to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and observe the Easter Holiday.

Several Christians were escorted by police as they observed the way of the cross, in remembrance of the suffering Jesus Christ went through. In Lira, two female victims who collapsed during the procession and a third victim who got minor injuries, were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, for treatment. They were later discharged. We wish to thank all the church leaders who graced and participated in the various religious events and Easter celebrations.

Our territorial commanders across the country, also worked with musicians and promoters of events, in the policing of music shows and concerts across all major venues. No incident was registered at all venues. We would like to thank them too.

The interagency planning, preparation, evaluation and coordination efforts were very effective, which made the likelihood of an attack or major threat very low. The full team effort included; UPDF, Joint Intelligence Components of ISO, ESO, CMI, and CI, the UPF Units of General Duties, FFU, CID, Fire and Rescue, Police Health Services, Traffic, Forensic, K9, Intergrated Highway Police, Public Relations, Rapid and Quick Reaction Teams. We also want to thank the local leadership and their communities for their level of vigilance.

During the period under review, a total of 44 major incidents/reportable offences were reported to police, where 35 lives were lost and 16 persons arrested.
