Lule replaces Mugerwa as Police FC Coach

As part of the ongoing commitment to strengthen the performance and competitiveness of Police Football Club, the management has made important changes within the technical team.

The management has relieved coach Simon Peter Mugerwa of his coaching roles alongside first assistant coach Robert Ssekweyama and goalkeeper coach Kalama Ben Lwanga.

This was announced in the official club statement issued out on Saturday 5th April 2025

“Effective immediately, Coach Mugerwa Simon Peter has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach. He leaves alongside Robert Ssekweyama and Kalama Ben Lwanga – the First Assistant and Goalkeepers Coach respectively.” reads the statement in part.

Mugerwa’s sacking follows two back-to-back losses in the Uganda Premier League at home against Kitara (1-0) and Soltilo Bright Stars (3-1). He leaves the club placed 12th on the log with 23 points after 22 games.

“We thank Coach Mugerwa for his services, dedication, commitment, and the time he has spent with the club. His contribution is greatly appreciated and we wish him the very best and continued success in his future endeavors.”

Consquently, the top hierarchy has hired coach Matia Lule as Mugerwa’s replacement on an interim basis. Lule will lead the Cops through the remaining eight league games with his short contract subject for renewal.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Matia Lule as the interim head coach of Police FC. He brings with him a wealth of experience, proven leadership and a strong track-record in the Ugandan Football.”

Lule will be deputized by Nestroy Kizito and Ahmed Borini Olima who have been retained on the club’s technical wing while Steven Billy Kiggundu arrives as the new Goalkeeping Coach.

Police Football Club will seek to make ammends against visiting Mbarara City this coming Thursday 10th April at Kavumba recreation playground.
