President Y.K. Museveni on Tuesday the 18th August 2015, passed out 3,348 crime preventers after undergoing a seven weeks training at Police training school Kabalye in Masindi district under the theme: The fight against unemployment and poverty through enterprise partnership and production.
The crime prevention and self-defense course was aimed at equipping the youths with skills necessary for job creation in a bid to fight poverty through enterprise partnerships. The crime preventers were drawn from higher institutions of learning throughout the country.
In a bid to reinforce the police in the fight against crime, the president revealed that government is working on a Programme that will see all major cities installed with security cameras to ease the process of identifying criminals.
He reiterated that the country is peaceful from terrorism, cattle rustlers, the Kony types hence the need to fight urban killers through use of modern methods like cameras to ensure that the country is totally peaceful.
“We are working on that so that we make it easy for the police to quickly identify criminals so that our country is totally peaceful”, said the president.
The Inspector Gen. of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura thanked the president for giving energy and momentum to the programme of crime prevention, the transformation of policing from colonial to community policing.
The commandant of the school SSP Frank Mwesigwa said that, the programme has strengthened the community policing model by ensuring that members of the community become active allies in an effort to enhance safety and the quality of neighborhoods through identifying and solving community problems.
The course was coordinated by the National Crime preventers Forum under the guidance of Mr. Kamugisha Blaise, the forum’s director.
