ASTU Headquarters Moroto- The Uganda Police Force has taken a significant step in enhancing its capacity to combat cattle rustling with the launch of the ASTU Induction Course Intake 003/2025 at Olilim Anti-Terrorism Police Training School.
The 12-week course, officially opened by AIGP Kafeero Moses Kabugo, Director of Human Resource Development, aims to equip 115 trainees with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to effectively perform their duties in combating cattle rustling.
In his remarks, AIGP Kabugo emphasized the importance of training in building the capacity of police officers to tackle the complex issue of cattle rustling. “Our work is to instill knowledge and skills in our officers to perform their duties effectively,” he said.
Commandant ASTU ACP Chemusto Francis thanked the Inspector General of Police for allowing ASTU to have continuous training, noting that ASTU has stabilized troublesome areas, especially Karamoja, Sebei, and Teso.
AIGP Kabugo praised ASTU for their great work, citing the significant reduction in cattle theft. He also thanked Olilim Police Training School for producing high-quality officers. Additionally, he announced that 10,000 police officers will be recruited, and ASTU will receive more personnel to cover all cattle corridors.
The Uganda Police Force has identified Karamoja, Sebei, and Teso as troublesome areas affected by cattle rustling. To address this issue, the police have deployed ASTU forces in these areas.
The launch of the ASTU Induction Course is a significant milestone in the police’s efforts to combat cattle rustling and ensure the safety and security of communities.
