Police 1-0 SC Villa:

Police FC boosted their push for a top-half finish with a narrow 1–0 victory over SC Villa in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at the Kira Road Police Arena on Tuesday.

Lawrence Tezikya scored the decisive goal just seven minutes into the match, calmly finishing off Ibrahim Abubaker Ssengoba’s assist to give the hosts an early advantage.

It was a long cross by Richard Matovu that was brilliantly controlled by Bedia Djuma Ikamba who shrugged off his marker and Ssengooba setup Tezikya for a fine placing.

SC Villa attempted to fight back but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Police defence. The visitors briefly thought they had equalised through Frank Ssebuufu in the first half, but the offside flag rose up on Hassan Mubiru.

Moments later, Bedia Ikamba thought he had doubled the advantage off Tezikya’s cutback only for the referee William Oloya to blow the whistle for a foul in the buildup.

Police maintained their defensive solidity after the restart to secure maximum points and revenge for the 2-1 loss in the first leg at Kadiba stadium.

The result lifted the Cops to sixth place with 35 points from 20 matches, a huge boost ahead of their next home game against NEC FC on Friday 13th March.
