Police, IDLO Sensitize Refugees on GBV and Child Protection in Madi Okollo

A team from the Uganda Police Force, led by ACP Otong Ignatius, Coordinator of Refugee Affairs, ACP Atuhaire Maureen, Head of Child and Family Protection Department, and SSP Angomoku Onen Emily, the Regional Child and Family Protection Officer, West Nile Region conducted a sensitization campaign at Rhino Refugee Settlement in Madi Okollo District.

The campaign, supported by the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), aimed to raise awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Violence Against Children (VAC) prevention among refugees and host communities.

ACP Otong emphasized the importance of collective efforts in timely reporting and addressing GBV and VAC cases to ensure justice for all.

ACP Atuhaire highlighted the need for community members to work together to identify and support victims/survivors of GBV and VAC, and to create a safe and protective environment for children.

The team also covered topics such as community policing, domestic violence, and handling children in contact and conflict with the law.

IDLO’s representative, Ms. Jennipher Achaloi, accompanied the team, highlighting the organization’s continued support to the Uganda Police Force’s efforts to combat GBV and VAC.
