President Yoweri Museveni today October 14, 2013 commissioned and handed over 49 firefighting equipment units to Uganda Policeat Namanve, a Kampala suburb.
The equipments that president handed over to Police included 20 fire tenders, 20 water tanks, 2 ladder fire trucks, 4 water boats fire fighters and 3 fire rescue boats.
The President said that in a modernized country there are three crucial players; the population who are the most important key player, the producers for goods and services and Government which provides for regulation, safety and security for the population.

He congratulated Uganda Police for the strides made under Gen Kale Kayihura to protect the people of Uganda.
The President said that the image of the Police has improved greatly and now more people trust the Police in handling their problems.
Gen. Museveni added that the Police are now more professional in handling security situation and any other matter in the country.
He said that Police is now capable of tackling any problem in the country.
He further commended the training given to the personnel of UPF who operate the equipments.
The president further warned the personnel against drunkardness, greed and promiscuous living.
The equipment should be put to proper use and cautioned that he will deal with anybody who will let down the trust and confidence the wanainchi have in the police.
Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura said that the equipments have been tested and results have proved to be good and they will deliver.
They are fitted with video cameras and monitors that will detect time when firemen received information about the fire, the time of their response and will also capture how firemen fight the fire.
For the first time in the history of UPF they have acquired equipment to fight fire on water, four (4) water boats fire fighters and three (3) fire rescue boats have been procured.
Police is going to establish new fire stations in municipalities and towns where frequent fires are reported such Lira, Kitgum, Soroti, Malaba, Busia, Iganga Lugazi, Mukono, Masindi, Buwama, Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Mityana, Mubende, Moroto, Ntinda, Kitintale- Butabika, Nateete, and Kajjansi.
The water fire fighting boats will operate at Port bell, Entebbe and Jinja.
Police is to strengthen the municipalities of Entebbe, Jinja, Tororo, Arua and Fort Portal.
Gen. Kayihura said that Police is planning to build a regional training center for fire fighters and rescue services.
The equipments were bought by Ministry of Local Government using US$ 100 million loan secured from China to procure road and fire fighting equipments for towns and Municipalities.
