President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today toured the temporary Command Center for national safe city CCTV at Natete Police Station.
This was not a launch but the President wanted to know the progress of the project.
Speaking brief after the presentation by the Ag. Director Fliex Baryamwistaki on the capabilities of the cameras and command centre, the President said that once the project is complete, fighting criminals will be very easy in the country.
He said that Police will no longer rely on eye witnesses but will be using scientific analysis to arrest criminals.
He said he was happy with what he saw at the station.
The first phase of the project which began in June 2018 to July 2019 will see 3,322 cameras being installed in Kampala metropolitan area and so far 359 cameras have been put up and currently running.
The capabilities of the cameras; they will be used for surveillance, pick up number plates of wanted motor vehicles, identifying suspected criminals, the capabilities are many but not limited to these.
