Press Statement: Traffic Disruption During Political Nominations

Latest Posts Press Release

The Kampala Metropolitan Police has noted with concern the continued disregard for traffic regulations by politicians and their supporters during nomination exercises. Today, a convoy led by Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago for nominations in Ntinda concluded safely. However, upon his return, a motorcycle (UBE 965 R, now impounded) with a loudspeaker mobilized approximately 200 riders and 20 vehicles, causing significant traffic disruptions

In an effort to restore order, police set up a roadblock at Rubaga. Unfortunately, some riders attempted to dodge the block, resulting in two motorcycles colliding. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the riders dispersed quickly. Some individuals threw stones at police, but the situation was peacefully resolved.

We urge all politicians and supporters to respect traffic laws and consider other road users and businesses. The Uganda Police will continue to monitor and address such incidents to ensure public safety.

Lord Mayor Lukwago was safely escorted home, and the situation has returned to normal. Further details will be provided as necessary.
