There are growing concerns about crime across the country, and we take these concerns seriously. As custodians of public peace and safety, we remain fully committed to protecting lives and property.
Several incidents reported to the police and through social media platforms have prompted swift operational responses, many of which have resulted in successful interventions.
We have registered major breakthroughs in the fight against aggravated robberies. Between 20–24 January 2026, four SMGs were recovered within the Kampala Metropolitan Policing (KMP) area, and nine suspects were arrested. Since these operations, armed robbery incidents have significantly declined. Preliminary investigations link the recovered firearms to over twelve crime scenes.
In addition, we have conducted multiple disruptive security operations, particularly within the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area. From 3 January to date, more than 440 suspected muggers, burglars, and narcotics consumers have been arrested. All suspects have been screened, and the majority have been arraigned before court.
We have also made significant breakthroughs in several murder investigations through the arrest of key suspects and the development of strong leads, including:
The murder of a socialite in Kyanja
The murder of a director at UCU
The murder of two individuals at a hotel in Lungujja
We appeal to the public to remain calm and continue cooperating with the police. Citizens are encouraged to maintain constant communication with law enforcement through our command center hotlines and the telephone contacts of police stations in their respective neighborhoods.
