SECURITY AGENCIES NET OVER 1,000 SUSPECTS IN WEEK‑LONG NATIONWIDE OPERATIONS

Between Monday 16 and Sunday 22 Feb 2026, Security agencies conducted intensive, intelligence‑led operations across Kampala Metropolitan and upcountry regions, resulting in the arrest of 1,095 suspects linked to burglary, aggravated robbery, narcotics, street mugging and other crimes.

The operations targeted blackspots, criminal hideouts and narcotics hubs, and led to the recovery of dangerous weapons and other exhibits, while also rescuing victims and responding to emergency calls from the public.​

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

Operations were conducted daily in Kampala Metropolitan East, South and North, as well as Aswa West, West Nile, Albertine North, Elgon, Savannah, East Kyoga, Wamala and other regions.​

A total of 1,095 suspects were arrested over the seven days, many of them habitual offenders and gang members involved in robberies, burglaries, phone snatching, narcotics and related crimes.​

Several suspects were screened, with many taken to court while others received cautions after profiling and verification of criminal records.​

Exhibits recovered included pangas and other dangerous weapons, breaking implements, narcotics, stolen motor‑vehicle parts, multiple SIM cards, and livestock (including a motor vehicle and three bulls from one operation in Luwero region).​

Fire and Rescue Services successfully rescued a juvenile who had fallen into a pit in Masindi. This was a life‑saving aspect of police work beyond enforcement.​

In Kampala Metropolitan East and South, disruptive operations in areas such as Kira, Mukono, Kyanja, Bweyogerere, Nsangi, Nateete, Katwe and Entebbe targeted narcotics smokers, violent gangs and hard‑core robbery suspects, with operations netting over 700 suspects.

In Entebbe, 20 suspects were arrested in Kiwafu Cell, with four identified and preferred with charges of aggravated robbery after linking them to an earlier incident, while another rapid response operation in Abaita Ababiri followed an online distress video and led to the arrest of a key suspect.​

In Gulu City and Elegu Town Council, joint forces harvested rogue elements and suspected criminals, recovering 30 SIM cards, breaking implements and marijuana from some of the suspects.​

In Savannah region (Luwero and Nakaseke), joint operations in town councils and cattle markets led to the arrest of suspects involved in simple robberies and burglaries

Enforcement in Nakawa and Lugogo traffic light areas targeted suspects who vandalize motor vehicles in traffic, leading to recovery of stolen parts such as side mirrors.​

Many of our operations were informed by community intelligence, complaints from residents, and support from boda-boda riders and local leaders.​

The primary objectives were to disrupt criminal gangs, prevent night crime and support lawful business by ensuring neighborhoods are free from rogue elements.​

Uganda Police reiterate its commitment to sustaining these intelligence‑led, operations, working with the public, sister security agencies and local authorities to keep communities safe.
