TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR CHAN 2024

The Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety wishes to inform the general public that due to the hosting of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2025), traffic flow in and around Kampala and Entebbe will be temporarily adjusted to facilitate the safe & smooth movement of teams, officials & guests.

To ensure public safety & minimize congestion, the following Traffic Management Plan will be in effect throughout the event period. Affected areas will be:

Accommodation locations

Training Locations

Game Hosting Stadiums

Diversions

The main routes will be;

Kampala Entebbe Express way – Northern Bypass – Bwaise Interchange

Other routes affected will be: –

Kubiri Roundabout – Mulago Traffic Lights-Yusuf Lule Road

Kira Road Police Station – Bukoto Road

Kalerwe Interchange – Kisasi Roundabout

Nalya Interchange – Namboole Interchange then access Mandela National Stadium Annex Namboole through main gate.

Busega roundabout – Natete Traffic lights – kabusu traffic lights- to Wankulukuku

Mulago traffic lights – Wandegeya traffic lights- Makerere hill road-Nakulabye traffic lights-Balintuma road

Jinja Road Traffic Lights (Punjani) – Jinja Road – Kyambogo junction & Ministry of Works

Diversions & Cutoff Points

Please be advised that traffic diversions will be implemented only if the need arises, especially during ongoing matches at Namboole Stadium. These diversions will take effect from 12:00 PM on match days.

All trucks will be diverted at Kalelwe Interchange to Gayaza-Kalagi-Mukono

All vehicles will be diverted at Naalya Interchange to face Kyaliwajjala – Ssonde-Seeta

All Vehicles will be diverted from Bweyogerere to face Jokas Hotel -kinawataka road

There will be a cutoff point at Hared Petrol station on Kinawataka road to deny access to Kireka Trading Center.

Kireka-Nasanga junction up to Jokas hotel road shall be accessed by only pedestrians.

Parking

Please note that parking at the Southern Playground Wing is strictly reserved for VIP-accredited vehicles only.

VIPs are reminded to clearly display their stickers for easy identification by parking officers.

General parking will be Bweyogerere Police Station Play Ground

Traffic Police will be heavily deployed along all designated routes to ensure the safety & smooth movement of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) participants & dignitaries. Lead vehicles will accompany convoys to facilitate secure & uninterrupted transit.

We therefore strongly urge all motorists & road users to:

Comply fully with all directives issued by traffic officers.

Exercise maximum discipline, patience, and courtesy on the roads.

Plan your journeys in advance to avoid delays and inconveniences during peak tournament activities.

Your cooperation is essential to the success and safety of this prestigious continental event.
