Ugandan Police doing great job in Somalia

The Commissioner Somali Police has praised Ugandan Police officers, who are deployed there to keep peace, that they have done a great job in pacifying that country. “The Police Officers who are deployed there (Somalia) are really doing a good job, they are carrying out joint operations ,and we appreciate their efforts,” Brig. Gen. Saeed Abdihakim Dahir revealed this while meeting his Ugandan counterpart, Gen. Kale Kayihura, at Police headquarters, Kampala, Naguru today (11/11/2013) morning.

Saeed Abdihakim Dahir revealed this while meeting his Ugandan counterpart, Gen. Kale Kayihura, at Police headquarters, Kampala, Naguru today (11/11/2013) morning.

 

Brig. Gen. Abdihakim is on a three day official visit to Uganda to explore avenues in which Uganda Police can assist in the areas of capacity building.

 

He said that they would like the Ugandan Police to assist them in training them in the fields of Counter Terrorism, Crime investigations, Community Policing and information sharing.

 

“What we need now is capacity development in all the 14 departments of Police that we have in Somalia,” Brig. Gen. Abdihakim said.

 

He added that he has admired Uganda Police’s Community Policing program that aims at tackling crime before it’s committed and generally involving the community in solving their security problems.

 

He said that Uganda Police and the Somali Police have a common enemy the terrorist group -Al-shababa.

 

“We need to tackle this enemy together, we cannot leave for one country to handle,” Brig. Gen. Abdihakim said.

 

Gen. Kale Kayihura on his part said that the Uganda Police is ready to assist their counterpart in capacity building in order for the country to be stable.

 

“We are willing to help where we can, we cannot sit and relax when our brothers in Somalia are in problems, we share the little we have,” Kayihura said.

 

He said the Commissioner has not only come to get knowledge from Uganda but also to share their experience on how they have been battling Al-shabab.

 

“We have a lot to learn from them and also to fine tune our methods on how to fight Al shabab,” Gen. Kale said.

 

The IGP said that the visit by the Commissioner is to cement relationship between Somalia and Uganda.

 

The Somali Commissioner will tour various Uganda Police Force facilities and learn more about the Force in the three days they will be in Uganda with his delegation.

 

He is being accompanied by the Director CID of Somali Police, Ugandan Police Officers attached to UN Police based in Somalia, Senior Commissioner of Police Benson Oyo Nyeko, and SCP Elly Womanya.
