Police in Kassanda are investigating the circumstances under which an unidentified woman, posing as a medical officer, abducted a three-day-old baby from Kiganda Health Centre IV.
It is reported that a couple, Muhindo Joachim and Nalubowa Ruth, residents of Katosi Cell in Kiganda Town Council, Kassanda District, presented their newborn baby girl at the health facility on 12/03/2026 after she developed complications.
The baby was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where she responded well to treatment. On 14/03/2026, she was transferred to the postnatal ward pending discharge.
On 15/03/2026, an unidentified woman entered the ward disguised as a medical officer. She moved around attending to patients and reviewing their treatment notes.
Upon reaching the victim’s bed, she picked up the baby and examined her treatment notes. She then informed the mother that the baby’s condition had deteriorated and required medication that had not yet been administered.
The suspect gave the mother UGX 10,000 to purchase the alleged medication from a nearby pharmacy. When the mother left the ward, the suspect took advantage of her absence and fled with the baby.
The matter was reported to Kiganda Police Station, and investigations are currently ongoing.
Anyone who comes across a woman in possession of a newborn baby under suspicious circumstances—especially one not known to have been pregnant, is urged to report immediately to the nearest police station
