In an ongoing crackdown on the theft of fresh farm produce, the territorial police in Wamala Region, with the assistance of the K9 unit, have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of coffee from the garden of Steven Ssemujju, a 59-year-old resident of Kireku LC in Busimbi Division, Mityana District.
The suspects, identified as Kigundu and his wife, Alice Ishimwe, both residents of Kireku village in Mityana, were apprehended following a thorough investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that on the night of November 17, 2025, the duo trespassed and stole coffee from Ssemujju’s garden.
On the morning of November 17, 2025, Ssemujju discovered that his garden had been tampered with and suspected that thieves had stolen his coffee. He immediately reported the incident to the police.
The Mityana K9 unit, along with a team of investigators, promptly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, the police sniffer dog, Whisky, picked up a human scent and tracked it over a distance of approximately 500 meters. The trail led them to a store located on the property of the suspect, Kigundu, and his wife Alice Ishimwe.
Inside the store, police recovered freshly stolen coffee. Further investigation led the dog to another location behind the main building, near the suspect’s latrine, where additional stolen coffee was found, along with a mosquito net allegedly used for concealing and stealing the coffee.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
