Police at Katwe Arrest Five Robbery Suspects, Recover Pangas and Impound Two Motor Vehicles

Police at Katwe are holding five suspects linked to a series of aggravated robberies committed across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

During the operation, officers recovered two pangas and impounded two motor vehicles believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes.

The arrests followed an incident that occurred on 6 July 2026 at about 3:30 a.m., when a group of five assailants allegedly attacked and broke into a mobile money outlet in Kisingiri Cell, Bunamwaya Parish, Bunamwaya Division, Wakiso District, and robbed an unspecified amount of cash and several mobile phones.

On 8 July 2026, police received information that some of the suspects involved in the robbery were hiding in Nabisalu, near the market in katwe 01 parish Makindye division Kampala district .

An intelligence-led operation was mounted, leading to the arrest of five suspects, including:

Muwanguzi Believer Eddie

Kato Faisal

Katongole Shafic

Kiyingi Abudallah

Tumwine Derrick

Subsequent searches conducted at the suspects’ residences led to the recovery of two pangas at Gangu B Cell, Busabala Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality.

Preliminary investigations have established that the suspects are linked to several other robberies, including:

A robbery at a boutique in Seeta, Mukono District, on Friday, 3 July 2026, in which a black Toyota Noah was reportedly used.

A robbery at a lending office in Kawempe Division, Kampala District.

Other related robbery incidents that remain under investigation.

Investigations further indicate that the suspects allegedly hired motor vehicles to facilitate the commission of the robberies.

 

So far, police have recovered and impounded two vehicles:

The suspects remain in police custody pending court proceedings, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend any other individuals connected to the criminal gang.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to tracking down all suspects involved in these robberies and bringing them to justice.
