POLICE RECOVER SUSPECTED STOLEN PROPERTY AS MANHUNT FOR BURGLARY SUSPECT INTENSIFIES IN BUGIRI

Police in Bugiri are hunting for a suspect identified only as Teete in connection with allegations of burglary and theft committed in Kimombasa Cell, Ndifakulya Parish, Western Division, Bugiri Municipality.

On the night of 12th July 2026, unknown assailants broke into the residence of a complainant in Kimombasa Cell and stole a mattress, two pairs of bed sheets, saucepans, a bag containing an unspecified amount of money, a National Identification Card, and several other household items.

The incident was promptly reported to Police, who responded to the scene with a Police Canine Unit.

Police sniffer dog T/P254 Monica was introduced to the scene and successfully picked up a scent. The dog tracked for approximately 100 metres, leading the handlers to a nearby salon that had also been broken into during the same night. The tracking continued through several corridors and along another route for approximately 800 metres, eventually leading officers to a scrap yard before connecting to a boys’ quarters.

The dog finally stopped and sat at the second door of a room believed to belong to the suspect, Teete. Although the occupant was not present at the time, officers conducted a lawful search of the premises.

During the search, the complainant positively identified one of his stolen bed sheets and a light-blue plastic plate stand. Another complainant, a salon operator, identified two plastic chairs, a hair dryer, light-blue towels, a green plastic bucket used for clothes, and carpets, all suspected to have been stolen during the burglary.

The recovered items have been secured as exhibits, and efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing.
