Police in Nansana have arrested four suspects and recovered more than UGX 54 million in cash, along with several other items, in connection with the alleged theft of UGX 200 million from a residence in Lugazi.
The operation followed intelligence received in the early hours of 16th July 2026 indicating that two men were moving around Nansana Heights Building in Ochieng One Zone carrying a bag suspected to contain a large amount of cash.
A team of officers from Yesu Amala Police Station, under the supervision of the DPC Nansana, responded swiftly and arrested two suspects who were found in possession of UGX 35,611,500. During interrogation, the suspects alleged that the money had been given to them for safekeeping by their associate, Kafeero Ramathan.
The suspects subsequently led police to Standard Rose Site Guest House, where Kafeero Ramathan was arrested. Preliminary investigations indicate that he allegedly stole UGX 200 million from his grandmother, a resident of Lugazi. Police contacted the complainant and confirmed that a theft case had earlier been registered at Lugazi Police Station.
A search conducted at the guest house resulted in the recovery of an additional UGX 18,900,000 in cash, four new smartphones, a laptop, and other newly purchased household items, all believed to have been acquired using the suspected stolen money.
During further interrogation, Kafeero Ramathan alleged that he had handed UGX 100 million to a traditional healer identified as Salongo Kato Nsobya of Kavumba, Wakiso District, for what he described as “cleansing” the stolen money. Police arrested the traditional healer and conducted a search at his residence.
Although no large sums of money were recovered, officers found UGX 120,000 in cash and a goat allegedly purchased for use in the purported cleansing ritual.
All four suspects are in police custody, while the recovered cash and other exhibits have been secured. The suspects and exhibits are being transferred to Lugazi Police Station to support the ongoing investigations into the alleged theft.
Investigations are ongoing.
