PRELIMINARY SECURITY UPDATE ON THE LOCAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The Uganda Police Force, working jointly with other security agencies, successfully provided security throughout the Local Council elections held on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.

Overall, the electoral process was conducted peacefully across most polling stations nationwide.

However, a few areas experienced isolated incidents of violence and electoral-related disturbances, which were promptly responded to by the security agencies.

Preliminary statistics recorded during the electoral process are as follows:-

Total cases registered: 609-

Total suspects arrested: 349-

Fatalities recorded: 4-

Injuries recorded: 15

The most commonly registered offences were:- Assault – 86 cases-

Malicious Damage to Property – 36 cases-

Inciting Violence – 26 cases-

Election Malpractice – 22 cases

Investigations into all reported incidents are ongoing, and appropriate legal action will be taken against all individuals found to have violated the law.

The Uganda Police Force appreciates the cooperation of the public, electoral officials, and all stakeholders who contributed to the largely peaceful conduct of the elections.
