Police in Luwero have arrested one suspect in connection with a burglary and theft that occurred at Bukuma LC I, Luwero Town Council, Luwero District, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest four other suspects.
The incident occurred during the night of 28 July 2026, when the suspects allegedly dug a hole through the wall of a tenant’s house, gained entry, and stole several items, including a television set and cash.
The victim reported the matter to Luwero Town Council Police Station, prompting investigators to deploy the Police Canine Unit to assist in tracing the suspects.
Police Sniffer Dog SCOOBY was introduced to the scene of crime, where it picked up a human scent and tracked it for approximately 600 metres to a bar belonging to one Salongo.
Upon reaching the premises, the dog entered the bar and sat at the doorway, indicating a possible link to the suspects.
During inquiries, one of the bar attendants informed police that a suspect identified as Ssendegge Dan had arrived at the bar at around 2:00 a.m. carrying a bag.
He reportedly spent some time playing pool with four other men. The witness further stated that Ssendegge and one of the men later left the bar for about an hour.
When they returned, they attempted to conceal their faces after noticing the attendant shining a torch in their direction before disappearing
Later that night, after the bar attendants had closed the premises and retired to their room, they discovered that it had been broken into.
Upon checking, they found that their bags containing clothes and money had been stolen.
Based on the information gathered and subsequent investigations, police arrested Ssendegge Dan, who is currently in custody on two counts of burglary and theft.
Clothing belonging to the two bar attendants was later recovered abandoned at the location where Ssendegge and one of his accomplices had earlier been seen.
Police are actively pursuing the four remaining suspects, who are currently at large, as investigations continue.
