The Uganda Police Force has foiled an attempted armed robbery at Gaz Petro Station in Central Division, Masindi Municipality, Masindi District, and arrested one suspect.
The incident occurred at about midnight when two armed suspects, travelling on motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, reportedly attacked a security guard deployed at the fuel station. The suspects were allegedly armed with a pump-action shotgun and a knife and attempted to overpower, disarm and rob the guard.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects first attempted to lure the guard into repositioning their motorcycle, apparently with the intention of attacking him. They subsequently held him at gunpoint, leading to a struggle during which the guard sustained injuries while resisting the attackers.
A police patrol team responded swiftly to the scene and intervened, successfully foiling the attempted robbery. The injured security guard was rescued and one of the suspects, identified as Odoma Ronald, 43, was arrested at the scene.
Police recovered a pump-action firearm, a knife and motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, which was allegedly used in the commission of the offence.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the second suspect, who remains at large.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
