The Police in Ntungamo have recovered two motor vehicle batteries stolen from a vehicle in Cell 08, Ntungamo Ward, Ntungamo Town Council, Ntungamo District. One suspect has been arrested and is in custody, while two prime suspects remain at large pending arrest.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Akampwera Kenneth, while the two prime suspects still at large are Wilber and Kasinge.
It is alleged that during the night of 20th August 2026, the suspects stole two batteries from the complainant’s motor vehicle.
Upon receiving the report, Police responded swiftly and, together with the Canine Unit, visited the scene of crime. A sniffer dog, Yuda, was introduced at the vehicle, where the suspects are believed to have stood while removing the batteries. The dog successfully picked up the target scent and tracked it for approximately 200 metres along the road before branching off and proceeding into a workshop belonging to Kenneth, who deals in scrap materials.
Upon entering the workshop, the dog laid down, indicating that the scent picked up from the crime scene had ended there.
A prompt search of the workshop was subsequently conducted by detectives from the CID, leading to the recovery of two batteries, which were positively identified by the complainant as the stolen items.
Kenneth was arrested and is currently in Police custody to assist with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend Wilber and Kasinge, who remain at large.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
