Today, the Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Hon. Juma Witonze Kisekka, together with members of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of Parliament, paid a courtesy visit to Uganda Police Force Headquarters in Naguru.
The delegation was received by the Inspector General of Police, who briefed the Members of Parliament on the Force’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its capacity, modernise policing and improve service delivery.
During the visit, the Members of Parliament were taken on a guided tour of key police infrastructure, including the newly constructed officers’ housing apartments at Naguru Barracks, the Directorate of Forensic Services and the National Command and Control Centre (NCC).
The delegation appreciated the significant investments being made in modern anti-crime infrastructure and commended the Uganda Police Force for embracing technology, science and innovation in the fight against crime.
Hon. Juma Witonze Kisekka pledged his full support to the Uganda Police Force and committed to lobbying Parliament for increased support to the Force to enhance its capacity and improve service delivery. He specifically pledged to champion interventions aimed at improving the welfare of police officers, accelerating the digitalisation of the Force and supporting the implementation of the Sub-County Policing Model.
The Defence and Internal Affairs Committee, led by its Chairperson, Hon. Robina Gureema Rwakoojo, also pledged its continued support to the Uganda Police Force and promised to advocate for the Force on the floor of Parliament.
In his remarks, the Inspector General of Police assured the delegation that the Uganda Police Force remains firmly committed to its core mandate of protecting life and property, preventing and detecting crime, maintaining law and order, and ensuring the safety and security of all Ugandans.
The IGP further emphasised that under his leadership, the Force will continue to prioritise investments in the welfare and operational capacity of its personnel.
“Under my leadership, the UPF shall continue to prioritise the budget towards clothing and accommodation, utilising in-house capacity and duty-free arrangements; mobility; feeding during operations; medical services; schools for police children; capacity building; and the provision of essential utilities, including water, electricity, sewage and garbage collection in all police facilities,” said the IGP.
