The Inspector General of Police has applauded the Lions Club of Kampala East for supporting efforts to improve the learning environment at Police Children’s School, Ntinda, describing investment in education as an investment in the future of children and the nation.
The IGP made the remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf by CP Anatoli Muleterwa, Commissioner Community Policing, during a community service activity held at the school on 19th September 2026 as the Lions Club marked World Literacy Day.
As part of the initiative, the Lions Club of Kampala East donated books, computers and furniture, supported improvements to the school library and planted trees within the school compound to promote a greener and more conducive learning environment.
The IGP described education as a key pillar of transformation within the Uganda Police Force and emphasised the importance of providing children with clean, well-equipped and supportive spaces in which they can learn and develop.
He encouraged the pupils to embrace the new learning resources and use them to broaden their knowledge and aspirations.
“These books and computers are your new tools. Use them. Read hard, dream hard,” the IGP said.
He pledged the Uganda Police Force’s continued commitment to working with partners such as the Lions Club to improve education and welfare across Police Children’s Schools in the country, while assuring the Club that the donated resources would be properly utilised and maintained.
Speaking at the event, Ms Lelia Bangirana, President of the Lions Club of Kampala East, said the Club chose to support the school library because investing in children’s education creates opportunities for a better future.
She explained that a conducive learning environment gives children an opportunity to read, discover and imagine, while equipping them with the knowledge and confidence necessary for their development.
She expressed hope that the improved library would strengthen the reading culture at the school, enhance learning and become a space where generations of pupils can develop their knowledge and confidence.
The Headteacher of Police Children’s School, Ntinda, Ms Lydia Kitimbo, appreciated the Lions Club for the support, saying the donated materials and improved facilities would help strengthen pupils’ reading culture and skills while promoting the integration of ICT in learning.
