President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday 12th October passed out 23,000 crime preventers at Nyakakinda grounds in Kasese district and commended them for their spirit of volunteerism.
At the function which was also attended by the Minister of Defense Dr. Cryspus Kiyonga, IGP Gen Kale Kayihura, Area MP Mbaimba James among others.
The President thanked the IGP for the work well-done and the crime preventers who took it upon themselves to help the Uganda Police Force with vigilance in crime prevention in their villages/sub counties from crimes like theft, murder, assaults and not forgetting the history of insecurity in their regions so that there is total observance of the law for development to take on.
The Guest of honor however encouraged them to acquire skills for wealth creation in all homes, to undertake commercial farming and to avoid exporting raw produce but instead learn on to add value then export processed goods.
Lastly, the President made it clear to the crime preventers that the government has no millions of shillings to pay any salary. He advised them to form groups to be given seed capital ‘Entandikwa’ for projects like poultry, farming and carpentry among others.
Finally the Inspector General of Police introduced ACP Namutebi Kadijah in charge of the crime prevention Unit. He also informed them about the new Rwenzori East region.
