The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Brig. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeeyi yesterday April 30, 2018 in company of senior police officers from police headquarters and KMP toured the newly constructed complex that will house Nateete Police station and a couple of other offices.
This new facility will go a long way to provide adequate and decent office accommodation for officers working at Nateete Police station. It will also house some departments from police headquarters.
The DIGP was extremely excited by the good work done by the police Construction Unit, a department under the Directorate of Logistics and Engineering. The head of the construction unit, SP Eng. Kyasanku Raymond explained the details of their work and the team led by DIGP was mesmerised.
The Deputy IGP was impressed by how much had been accomplished by our own engineers.
He was informed by the Deputy Director Logistics and Engineering (L&E) SCP. Richard Edyegu that so much has been done in this direction and many police stations across the country have been built but notably, the construction of Kabale Police Regional headquarters, almost ready for handover and use deserved special mention.
The Deputy Director L&E further informed the DIGP that the magnificent complex was constructed at an estimated cost of UGX. 7.8 billion, fully sponsored by the Government of Uganda. He paid tribute to H.E the president who gave an executive order to construct this kind of structure after the police was set on fire in 2009 during the infamous “Buganda riots”.
He decried the encroachment on our land and asked that management takes a decision to reclaim this land with immediacy. A team comprised of the Directorates of Research, Planning and Development, Human Resource Administration, and Human Rights and Legal Devices were tasked to handle this matter with the urgency it requires.
The complex sits on 4103 square meters, far bigger than the current Police headquarters.
The facility will house officers as the police will now embark on the construction of housing facilities for officers in Nateete. It gives a ray of hope and brings joy after the nasty experience of 2009 when the station was set on fire by youth in what will go down in history as the “Buganda Riots”.
