POLICE REFUTES REBEL ATTACK CLAIMS ON KABALE HOTEL AND KYEGEGWA
On Monday, August 4, 2014 at about 4.00 am,an unknown gunmen attacked Little Liz Africa Hotel located at Gaju Cell Central ward Division in Kabale Municipality. The attackers who appeared drunk engaged the receptionist/attendant Lawrence Twinomuhangiin Rukiga for over fifteen minutes about the whereabouts of two female adult students booked at the hotel that he was reluctant to reveal upon suspecting the conduct of the attackers.
He was resultantly, shot dead from his room while crying for help. The attackers approached the second floor where they without purpose tried one lock to the rooms in vain, and thereafter, randomly shot several bullets in the corridor and at the ceiling before fleeing from the scene. Apparently, no other injuries were sustained in the process.
The Police from Kabale District Headquarters responded to the scene and recovered 29 cartridges and the body of the deceased for postmortem analysis. The two female customers that were targeted together with their boyfriends are currently supporting Police investigations to help establish the identity of the suspects and the motive behind the attack.
The preliminary investigations indicate the attack as work of suspected criminals whose intention was to harm the female customers they had stalked all night in while partying within Kabale Municipality till 3.00 a.m. when they returned with their boyfriends to their rooms. Further efforts are in place to trace for one of the prime suspects, an ex-lover to one of the girls that has since disappeared.
Kabale Municipality is one of the safest towns in Uganda that welcomes millions of visitors every year. The attack therefore, is an isolated incident of criminality that has no connection to rebel activity and preparations for the African day of decentralization are running smoothly.

The Police calls upon the management of Red Pepper to consider the impact of the reckless publication that appeared in the Red Pepper of 6th August 2014 and accurately inform the public of the facts and events at Kabale and Kyegegwa districts.
