Following concerns about growing insecurity and violence due to raids and counter raids in the Karamoja region, the DIGP Maj Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi has today held a consultative meeting with the Karamojong Sub Region commanders in Moroto.
The meeting which was attended by RPCs from the two regions all DPCs from the 9 districts of Karamoja plus all Regional personnel was to purposely discuss the security challenges in the Karamoja sub-region and also devise measures on how to respond to them.
The DIGP expressed the determination of security agencies to counter all forms of raids and counter raids, and to bring perpetrators of such acts to justice.
Other measures designed to maximize effort include; community policing approach, continuous sensitization and awareness programs across governments, diversifying means of survival through education and commercial farming, dialogue and peace committee meetings to reduce acts of violence.
“The public should know that the situation in Karamoja is manageable and under control. We have no doubt that our renewed security efforts, will restore total peace and security in the Karamoja sub-region,” the DIGP said.
For instance, he revealed that in the last two days, “we have not registered any incidents of cattle raids in the region.”
