MINISTER APPOINTS TASK TEAM TO PROBE INTO ALLEGATIONS OF DEATH THREATS
On the 2.04.2015, the Hon. Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima appointed a task team to investigate the allegations of death threats by SMS against Moses Kipsiro, the 10,000 meters Commonwealth Games Champion. This follows continuous complaints by Moses Kipsiro on how he had received an anonymous threat of death by SMS.
The team that comprises of experts from ICT, Criminal investigations and Intelligence Directorate (CIID), Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and Police Headquarters is headed by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Ochom Edward, and has commenced investigations that are expected to be completed within four (4) weeks. An investigative report supporting their findings and recommendations will be submitted respectively.
No arrests have been made so far, as the team is proceeding with much caution and professionalism.
Meanwhile, the Police would like to caution the public that “any threat to a person’s life in whatever form is punishable by law”. We would like to therefore, encourage all recipients of threats under different forms to contact police and report it immediately for further investigations.
